Never Complain About Moisture When You Live in a Desert!

By Sierra Smith - May 23, 2022

We woke up to another layer of wet snow again this morning, and my first reaction was, "Oh no, not more snow!"......but, it only took a few moments for me to shift gears and remember that we live in a high elevation desert, and one dosen't complain about about a few inches of nice wet snow that will be gone before the end of day when one lives at close to 7,000 feet in a desert!  No, it doesn't look like the Sahara Desert.....it's a bit different, but we don't get a lot of moisture up here, so I'm not done whining about that. The sagebrush slopes are turning green and we've already seen  Pasque flowers, Indian Paintbrush, Glacier Lillies, and other mountain wildflowers in bloom and the pastures are lush and vibrant, so animals have lots to eat after a long hard winter. Our snowpack is good, so that also means good water in the North Platte and Encampment rivers, which makes for good fly fishing and float trips.

In any event, we are looking forward to an active and busy summer here at Roan Hill Guesthouse. Our May was a bit slow but it's picking up and the reservations are coming in. Rising food prices and gas prices are concerning for lots of folks, but did you know that we have not raised our rates in over ten years? It's more important to us that we see our long term guests as well as new guests each year, so remaining affordable to everyone is a priority.

Every sping provides new challenges for us  and there are lots of projects and maintenance that need to be done, but we still try and make improvements every year, no matter how small. This year is no exception and we're scrambling to get all our to-do lists done. There is nothing like a fresh coat of paint, new bed linens or a new set of deck furniture to make the place look brand new.  We pride ourselves on making sure that our guests have everything they need and that our property is in the best of condition. If you have not stayed with us before, please consider making you next reservation here with us. You won't be disappointed.  You can book directly with us anytime by calling 307-710-5299.
